Activist poet David Smith-Ferri, whose newly released book, Battlefield without Borders (Haley’s Publishing), portrays his encounters with Iraqi people and the events that have shaped their lives over the last eight years will appear at King’s Books, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma on Friday, February 29th at 7pm. He will be giving a multimedia presentation, with poetry and slideshow from trips to Iraq and Jordan. Through poetry, stories, and slides, Smith-Ferri will attempt to bring the people he has met into our presence.

David Smith-Ferri wrote many of the poems in his book, "Battlefield without Borders", during two visits to Iraq and recently while in Amman, Jordan. he will tell us the stories behind his powerful poetic and film images and help us understand the plight of thousands of Iraqi refugees.

Stop Use of Testimony Obtained By Torture From Being Used Against Black Americans
Eight former members and supporters of the Black Panther Party, now known as the San Francisco 8, have been targeted in a vindictive prosecution in San Francisco for their political activities of over 35 years ago. The court ruled that murder charges against former Black Panthers was based on confessions extracted by torture.
They will showing a short 28 minute film called "Legacy of Torture" about the use of torture against Black Americans and speaking after the film.

Word is Tacoma recently passed legislation that will ban hip hop shows from Tacoma's public venues. The legislation came into effect last Friday. Tacoma hip hop artists and producers heard about this just recently and are staging a rally at the Pantages Theaters, Downtown Tacoma, Monday, March 10 at noon.

Writer and photojournalist David Bacon will speak at King’s Books, 218 St. Helens Avenue, Tacoma at 7pm on Monday, March 10th. Based in Oakland and Berkeley, California, he is an associate editor at Pacific News Service, and writes for TruthOut, The Nation, The American Prospect, The Progressive, and the San Francisco Chronicle, among other publications. He has been a reporter and documentary photographer for 18 years, shooting for many national publications. He has has exhibited his work nationally, and in Mexico, the UK and Germany.

Why Protest at the Mall?
Because Tacoma has so few community spaces, the mall has become one of the key cultural, economic, social hubs of Pierce County
The Tacoma Mall is the single most trafficked site in Tacoma
The mall and the recruiting center on its property target youth: the mall for their allowances and the military for their lives
Make it impossible for business as usual to continue as the Iraq War approaches its 5th year.
