SDS Radical Film Night: Salt of the Earth

2007/09/28 - 7:30pm

Tacoma SDS presents Radical Film Night each Friday at 7:30 PM at 808 N. Union (across from the University of Puget Sound).

Showing September 28, Salt of the Earth (1953)

Directed collaboratively by the infamous blacklisted "Hollywood Ten," this film -- the only blacklisted American film -- was made in spite of tremendous political pressure from the US government and major film studios.

The story of striking zinc miners in New Mexico explores the complex issues of labor relations and the rights of people of color and women and is presented by a cast made up almost entirely of the actual miners and their families.
