Port of Tacoma Protests

In March of 2007, the military used the Port of Tacoma to ship military Stryker vehicles to Iraq. These deployments are sent before military personnel and therefore, if the Strykers had been prevented from leaving the port, so would the soldiers. Riot police had sequestered the protest to "free speech zones" that were beyond the areas where vehicles were passing. This video was taken on the corner of Milwaukee and Lincoln.

Another angle of the police riot that took place:

Rubber bullets were fired earlier that night:

A police report stated that protesters had thrown sawhorses at the police, and that is what provoked their harsh response. However, there is no evidence of this. Tacoma SDS talks to a Tacoma PD spokesmen who said on King 5 that protesters provoked the response. Yet the spokesperson was not there, nor did he read the report which said protesters threw sawhorses at officers.

Later that weekend, twenty three people were arrested for civil disobedience at the Port.

Earlier in the week, I was nearly arrested by police for video-taping at the Port.
