What is Winter Soldier?
In 1971, a courageous group of veterans exposed the criminal nature of the Vietnam War in an event called Winter Soldier. Once again, we will demand that the voices of veterans are heard.
Once again, we are fighting for the soul of our country. We will demonstrate our patriotism by speaking out with honor and integrity instead of blindly following failed policy. Winter Soldier is a difficult but essential service to our country.
Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.
The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

To address the democracy
To address the democracy part of my original commnet:
I personally feel as though many member who claim to for democracy actually prefer and support a socialist movement. For example, the socialist groups that are encouraged to attend these functions, the mass amounts of Che Guevera memorabilia the protestors bring to the events (this could be out of sheer ignorance though).
Excuse me for believing that the Tacoma chapter of SDS was the group responsible for organizing and planning the Shut Down Tacoma/Smash Ice event. That event was advertised on this site, and it whent under the same name/premise as the upcoming Tacoma Mall event (Shutdown Tacoma Mall Vs. Shutdown Tacoma, both of which have the main goal of "disrupting business as usual"). Maybe it's just a copycat?
Also, I do not believe that any violent post was in order especially over the internet. However, I also have not been able to see these comments so I can not speculate as to what was written, or the severity of the comments. Seeing as this group is so against violence ad destruction (or, at least they claim to be) I expect this upcoming protest at the Tacoma Mall to be peaceful and non-destructive. Also, I ask that the military recruiters are shown respect, they are just about all combat veterans. They have earned the right to be called Americans, they haven't just freeloaded off this wonderful nation like many of the people who will soon be protesting many of its ideals.
PS, please do not consider this trolling. The only reason I am addressing these issues here is because I believe it would be much harder to a genuine and peaceful discussion of this in person, at the upcoming protest at the Tacoma Mall.
Sincerely,
Anonymous
