Tacoma SDS

Tacoma Smash ICE is a collection of individuals concerned that not
only do the I.C.E (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) centers
exist, but there is one on the tide flats in Tacoma, Washington.
We intend to educate those in our community about upcoming events
in april regarding the Tacoma Detention center and promoting
self-organized action and protest against detention centers and
borders of all kinds. April 21st through the 26th will be a week
of teach-ins that lead to a demonstration against I.C.E, against
The Geo group, and against those who invest in privatized prison
camps. These teach-ins will involve student and public education
about immigration, its criminalization, and the detention centers.
Also a know your rights training will be going on during the week
as well as part of the teach-ins. Through out the week benefits
and bake sales will be happening to help those who have family and
friends in the North West Detention center pay for gas and other
necessities to help them maintain contact with those loved ones
that were stolen from them. On saturday the 26th of April a march
will leave Peoples Park in Tacoma, then make its way through
neighborhoods on the hillside and down to Wells Fargo. We
encourage those joining the march to bring drums, whistles or any
small instrument to play while we make our way to Wells Fargo.
After rallying in front of WF, we will make our way to the
detention center. On our march from WF to the detention center we
will ask everyone to cease playing instruments and making noise
and while at the detention center to remain quiet out of respect
for those people inside and for those visiting loved ones. We
want to let the people inside and their families outside know that
Tacoma is with them. We want to let I.C.E. and our Tacoma
government know that we will not stop until the raids stop. We
will not stop until these detention centers are no more.

If you or any organization you are a part of would like to help, please
contact us. We are in need of lawyers and advocates who specialize in
immigrant rights specifically for the march to the detention center on
the 26th. Also we would like to get the word out about our know your
rights teach-in. Any contacts or reposts of these events would be
