If your vehicle for argument

If your vehicle for argument is quoting famous people then take this:

"One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one."
- Agatha Christie

"All who affirm the use of violence admit it is only a means to achieve justice and peace. But peace and justice are nonviolence...the final end of history. Those who abandon nonviolence have no sense of history. Rather they are bypassing history, freezing history, betraying history."
- Andre Trocme

"There never was a good war or a bad peace."
- Benjamin Franklin

"Peace is not only better than war, but infinitely more arduous."
- George Bernard Shaw

"Unconditional war can no longer lead to unconditional victory. It can no longer serve to settle disputes. It can no longer be of concern to great powers alone. For a nuclear disaster, spread by winds and waters and fear, could well engulf the great and the small, the rich and the poor, the committed and the uncommitted alike. Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind."
- John F. Kennedy

"One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means."
- Martin Luther King Jr.

"Either war is obsolete or men are."
- R. Buckminster Fuller

"We tend to think the problem is human beings have this natural tendency to kill, and yet in the middle of a hot war, WWII, a "good war," as it were, the US army was astonished to learn that at least three out of every four riflemen who were trained to kill and commanded to kill, could not bring themselves to pull the trigger when they could see the person they were ordered to kill. And that inner resistance to violence is a well kept secret."
- William Ury

I believe that's 8 - 3 in favor of peace.

I'd also like to address the fact that you believe there are plenty of people who want to come over here and kill us. I don't know what your idea of plenty is but the vast majority of people fighting US troops in the Middle East are doing it because they want us out of their countries. They've had enough of the foreign occupation and their beliefs that Muslims should rule their own nations comes straight out of the Quaran; no gun will change that. The only reason anyone wants to kill us is because of the way we were treating them 20 years ago and by being there now we are ensuring that in 20 years' time they will still want to kill us. So how do you figure that picking a fight with these people who have been shat on by the entire world for the past 1000 years is making us any safer at home? If we are any safer it is because they put more metal detectors in the airports not because we're taking the fight to them.
