The 14th annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality will
take place on Thursday, October 22, 2009 in roughly two dozen cities
across the country. Seattle's contribution to this day will include a rally starting at 5:30pm and a march starting at approximately 6:15pm
from Occidental Park (between S Washington St & S Main St and between
1st Ave S & 2nd Ave S) in Seattle's Pioneer Square district. We ask all
of our supporters to attend this event to help raise a resounding "NO"
to police violence and killings.

Activists planning G-20-related protest events were repeatedly harassed by police during the week preceding the Summit, and residents unconnected with any protest organizing saw similar visits from a police force acting as if it expected a foreign army to invade the city. As collectives who support activists by providing food services at similar scale events entered Pittsburgh immediately prior to the convention, they and anyone who offered space to their mobile kitchens were harassed and threatened by local police.

Leonard was severely beaten upon his arrival at the Canaan Federal Penitentiary. When he went into population after his transfer, some inmates assaulted him. The severity of his injuries is that he suffered numerous blows to his head and body, receiving a large bump on his head, possibly a concussion, and numerous bruises. Also, one of his fingers is swollen and discolored and he has pain in his chest and ribcage. There was blood everywhere from his injuries.

Johannes Mehserle resigned from the Bart police shortly after killing Oscar Grant for living while black.

A former police officer in California has been charged with the murder of an unarmed black man at a railway station.

Johannes Mehserle, a transport officer at the time, is accused of shooting Oscar Grant, 22, in the back as he lay face down on a train platform.

Mr Grant was among several people taken off a San Francisco to Oakland train when police intervened to stop a fight.

The 1 January shooting, filmed on mobile phones, has provoked frequent and at times violent protests.

In the early hours of January 1st, BART police officer Johannes Mehserle shot and killed a 22 year old man, Oscar Grant, on the platform of the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland. Witnesses report that Grant was "lying on his stomach with his hands out in a non-threatening position when he was shot". Police have confirmed Grant was unarmed and have suggested the shooting was an accident. Grant lived in Hayward and leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter.

On Saturday November 15, 2008, 3 members of the Olympia Police Department shot in the back and killed 24-year-old Jose Ramirez Jimenez.

On Saturday November 15, 2008, 3 members of the Olympia Police Department shot in the back and killed 24-year-old Jose Ramirez Jimenez. Many of the details have been withheld by the OPD, however we do know that the 3 officers who fired the shots were Paul Bakala, Mike Hovda, and Chuck Gassett. These officers have been given time off in the form of paid vacation. It is the convictions of the Olympia community that this is insufficient.

One hour before the final presidential debate of the 2008 campaign, fourteen members of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) marched in formation to Hofstra University to present questions to the candidates. IVAW had requested permission from debate moderator Bob Schieffer to ask their questions during the debate, but received no response.
