New Washington State History Museum Exhibit: Tacoma's Civil Rights Struggle

The South was not the only place where Americans were denied equal rights. Right here in Washington, people could not get jobs or housing because of their color. The national civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s helped, but local leaders fought for equal rights in their own way. Learn how in Tacoma's Civil Rights Struggle: African Americans Leading the Way. The exhibit will features a rich collection of artifacts, including photographs and newspaper articles, many not seen in half a century. Organized by the Washington State Historical Society and the Tacoma Civil Rights Project.

Monday: Tacoma Cops Steal Joe LaSac

Joe La Sac

Tacoma cops arrested Joe LaSac and his camera just after midnight, August 5th 2008 with a charge of criminal trespassing. Jail support bailed Joe out of jail just before 5am Tuesday morning. Joe was arrested while retreating form a parking lot onto the sidewalk at the Port of Tacoma where Tacoma police were threatening protesters with laser pointer equipped tasers.

His arraignment is this Friday at 1:30 pm.

Olympia Attorney LeGrand Jones in Tacoma Court Wednesday

Courtroom support has been requested.

LeGrand Jones, a local attorney from Olympia, was the first person arrested during this round of PMR activity in Tacoma, for failing to provide his cattle tag to the overseer when requested. He will appear in Court at Tacoma's City-County building at 1:30PM Wednesday, and requests the pleasure of our company if we are able.

Please come dressed for court. A friend of the defendant will provide wrist binders if you are so inclined (to send a visual message).
